RAVENSWOOD, WV–Star Plastics celebrates 30-year anniversary with an employee event that pulled record-breaking attendance numbers.
As part of Star’s yearlong 30th anniversary celebration, Star Plastics hosted a celebration at the end of October for their employees and families. Over 230 employees and their families attended the event, which was held at their Ravenswood facility.
While the day turned out to be cold and rainy outside, inside the Ravenswood site on the cleared-out plant floor, employees gathered in record number to celebrate with fun, food, and prizes. Early sign-ups for attending the event showed a higher than normal predicted turnout among employees. Typical company events garner about 65% employee attendance, but for the 30th anniversary, nearly all employees joined the celebration, bringing their families to commemorate the occasion. “It’s been many years since we’ve seen such a turnout with their families, and it brought back a lot of great memories,” said Tolling Coordinator Lora Cremeans, who’s celebrating her 26th anniversary this year at Star.
The occasion was celebrated with a carnival theme; including carnival style games, inflatables bounce toys, circus characters, a petting zoo, and of course snacks of popcorn, funnel cakes, caramel apples and more. Tara Chambers, Senior Account Manager and Inside Sales Leader told the team, “This was probably one of the best events we have ever had!” “My favorite part,” added Cremeans, “was getting in the bouncy house and not being able to move the next day!”
While all of this was going on, the Star team was also holding a raffle of around 200 gifts with a combined value of over $5,000. These gifts were provided by some of Star’s most valuable vendors and suppliers who wanted to join in on the festivities. Every employee at the event received at least one gift, and everyone’s names went back in for the final drawing of larger gifts. This final round consisted of college football tickets, a portable smoker, $250 gift cards, and an extreme-cold travel cooler.
Midway through the event, President and Founder Doug Ritchie took a minute to address the crowd. He thanked everyone for coming to show their support, as well as for their part in the past 30 years of Star’s successes. “Everyone in this room has positively affected this company, whether you’re a new hire, a supportive family member, or if you’ve been with me from the beginning,” said Ritchie. He also took a minute to share a special appreciation to those that have been with him for 20 years, 25 years, and even 27, 28 and 29 years. “It’s so rewarding to me, personally, to know that I have so many team members committed to the vision and direction of this business. I feel very blessed.”
