Ravenswood, West Virginia – January 9, 2024 – Star Plastics, an industry leading custom compounder of engineering-grade thermoplastics, highlighted its commitment to its communities with two programs completed during the holidays. The company and its employees raised $10,000 for the local Adopt-A-Family program and a truck bed full of toy donations for the local Toys for Tots campaign.
Star conducts these campaigns annually, and the 2023 Adopt-a-Family program raised the most money in its history. Through raffles, donations and a company match, Star was able to adopt several families and provide them with gifts and holiday meals.
“Our employees are very involved in and dedicated to Star’s philanthropic efforts,” said Dan McMullen, CEO. “They are active in our community individually, and when teamed with other Star associates, they regularly accomplish great things.
”In November, employee volunteers constructed and installed a brand-new playground at Henry J. Kaiser Elementary School in Ravenswood. Fifteen Star volunteers built the playground in a single day. Star already shares a longstanding relationship with the school as a Partner in Education, and Star sits on the local school improvement council.
Throughout the year, employees are involved in other educational partnerships. The company has helped support the youth of Jackson County, West Virginia for many years at the Jackson County Junior Fair. In 2023, Star supported youth by purchasing livestock raised by employees’ children. In October, Star hosted dozens of local youths on Manufacturing Day at their plant. After the visit, several teenagers expressed interest in learning more about a career in manufacturing. For several years, Star has sponsored a scholarship for local college-bound students.
In addition, Star employees take part in local schools’ athletic programs, charity walks and community festivals. The company believes in building thriving communities by supporting employees and the places where they live and work
